Morgan's Projects: MySite (This Website)

MySite was designed to improve upon my old (in fact, really old) website that really did look its age. The premise was two-fold - to tell people about me and my family and to give potential employers a more hands-on idea of what I'm capable of producing.

Ultimately, I would have liked to make the site PHP driven so I could include my PHP/MySQL photo-gallery but sadly my host only allowed for client- side content and I really didn't have time to rewrite the code so for now, my gallery can - rather ironically - only be viewed in pictures.

What? No CMS?

Other than the fact that many CMS driven sites require PHP or another server- side scripting language what was unavailable to me, I'm also a realist:

Sure, you're not going to find the next thing in web design here, but that's not what I'm aiming for. I know what I want and I want to keep it simple.

I really haven't spent much time on the site since I finished ImageCompressionDemo and even then I've been working like crazy to get my other projects finished. Yesterday was probably my biggest update, completely reworking the outline aethetics with a nice background and some semi-transparent boxes for the content, footer and links boxes.

Tomorrow I plan to get the image overlay graphics done for the links box links and get ensure all the pages links properly. I also want to change the style sheet for images as it's now out of place with the current theme. If I get time, I'll also add the inspiration page and try and find the source materials so I can start filling in my missing project pages!

31st March 2009

I've been pretty busy doing other things this week, so I haven't had much chance to concentrate on the site. The baby's due in two weeks so Amy and I have been concentrating on making sure we've got everything ready - plus we've had to house-sit for this week so as yo can guess everything's pretty chaotic.

I DID get around to changing the style sheet for the image elements though and I've tidied up all the navigation bar links. Sadly I've also had to drop my final year project from the projects page as the disc it was on has been irreparably damaged. I might be able to find it elsewhere but it won't be up on the site for quite some time.

Today should be a bit less hectic, so I'm going to do the navigation bar roll-over backgrounds and concentrate a bit on one of my other open projects. I haven't been back to 3D Demo for a while so that'll probably be the most likely candidate.

2nd April 2009

Today is a good day. When I die I will travel to place where my father's father's father's father's father sits in glory in the halls of ... Ahem... sorry about that :)

Today IS a good day though because I've put together a rather snazzy slide-show component for the website. You can check out the first one by going to my Vision Force Marketing project page. I'm sure you'll like it!
